-
- "Anthem" is a great track composed using OctaMED V4.0 by the UK Dance group
- ╞volution, consisting of Ian Chisholm and Marcus Donachie.. The interesting
- aspect about this peice is the series of subtle arrangements which weave in
- and out of each other quite remarkably.. I particularly like the String
- arrangement myself..
-
- Now, after recording Anthem from OctaMED via MIDI into Music-X (using MIDI
- Clocks from an Amiga 500 Plus to an Amiga 2000), I decided to arrange the
- complete score using subtle new instruments to compliment this great peice
- of music! First of all, I've provided Anthem with new drum and percussion
- parts, and I've included a counterpoint melody which sounds like piano
- bells. I've doubled up the strings and dropped this an Octave and panned
- this to the right, the original is panned to the left.. The trumpet
- solo was a bit flat so I generated modulation performance data from
- the Korg i3 to accompany the solo which provides some wavering sustain on
- the end of the longer notes. I retained the Steel Drum part which works
- really well as an additional counter melody to the piano.. I also added a
- rhythm electric guitar which plays muffled riffs in the background.. I
- also retained the GM "Choir Aahs" which lifts Anthem that one extra
- notch!! The strings are an amazing variation on the Western Film score
- and compliment really well! (In Fact this makes for a nice ballance! and a
- beautiful example of score arrangement.)
-
- A new Bass Guitar part and piano playing the chords together with new
- additional strings have been added.. Alternatively, the original Piano
- bass part, bass guitar and drums have gone!
-
- The original piano melody/strings/guitar/trumpet/Steel Drum are as was and
- provided the firm basis for me to undertake an arrangement using Music-X
- V2.0 and the Korg i3.. The complete "Anthem" Music-X score required me to
- velocity scale each of the original MIDI instruments which derived from
- the OctaMED module, this enabled the original and modified musical data
- to merge nicely with the new arrangements recorded from the Korg i3 into
- Music-X..
-
- The Standard MIDI Files (SMF) file format 0 and format 1 versions of
- Anthem are configured for the Korg i-Series of synths with the drums on
- MIDI channel 10 but with the addition of percussion on channel 11 using
- the Korg i-Series Perc KIT derived from the "AMERICA".PCG found on the Korg
- i-Series Boot-up disk.. The files stored here will load into any Software
- Sequencer on any platform with an SMF import facility but will only play
- the correct voices via one of the Korg i-Series synths voice set ups such
- as Korg i2/i3/i4S/i5M and i5S.. These Standard MIDI Files (SMF) will port
- to a 720K MSDOS formatted floppy disk and load directly into any of the
- Korg i-Series synths on-board SMF sequencer.. General MIDI (GM) versions of
- the two Korg Standard MIDI File (SMF) songs here can be found in the
- "MIDI_NET:GM_MIDI/MIDFILES/AEVOLUTN/" directories..
-
- Enjoy!
